United Way of Richmond County

United Way of Stanly County

Dear Central NC Council Scouters,

As a Reminder - the new membership fees are now in effect.

As discussed in our July Fireside Chat and July Membership Meeting, to ensure we have the resources to fulfill the promise of Scouting, the updated national membership fee for 2021:

$66 for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts participants

$42 for Exploring participants

$30 for council-paid memberships

$42 for all adult volunteers (includes cost of background check)

$75 for a unit charter fee

$16 Insurance Fee

$18 Activity Fee

Starting August 1, 2020, there will also be a one-time $25 joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts; however, there is no joining fee for Exploring participants, participants previously registered in any BSA program, those transferring from one program to another, council-paid memberships, or adult volunteers.

Over the last few months, we have seen the Scouts across the Central North Carolina Council community come together, to bring solutions, relief, and comfort to those in need. From making masks to providing meals for first responders, Scouting has been a vital partner for communities across the country.

The value of Scouting is undeniable for those within the program and the greater public, and we are committed to continuing to offer this unmatched opportunity to young people and families in our local communities in a safe and sustainable manner. To ensure we have the resources to fulfill the promise of Scouting, the updated national membership fee for 2021.

You might be asking yourself…. “$100 for Scouting?! But Where does my money go?”

GREAT Question! Our pie chart below shows that $18 (blue dollars) stays local to provide local programming and local support for local Scouting. The $16 is paid directly to insurance companies (gray dollars).  The remainder (red dollars) goes directly to the Boy Scouts of America National Office.

All Friends of Scouting dollars stay local and are directly reinvested directly into Scouting. Last year the CNCC invest $1.2 million directly back into the Scouting Program and provided over $80,000 indirect assistance.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to your District Leaders, Council Board Members, or any Professional Staff.

Thank you for your support for Scouting during this time,
